October is Bully Prevention Month

Wolf Creek stands up against bullying during the month of October and all year long!

At Wolf Creek, we stand up to bullying by focusing on compassion, responsibility, and respect. Our classroom teachers, school counselor, and support staff all contribute to learning the character traits through class meetings, character lessons, and problem solving in daily situations. Our school counselor Mrs. Marcum will have an all-school assembly on October 2nd to recognize this important topic.

According to the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, bullying occurs “when someone repeatedly and on purpose says or does mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending himself or herself.” The most critical characteristics of bullying are aggressive and unwanted behavior that is repeated over time and an imbalance of power.

We have three really important Kindness Expectations that we focus on at WCES. They are:

We are kind and respectful to others.

We include students so that no one is left out.

If we see unkind things happening, we tell an adult.

There are a lot of resources available for kids and parents about bully prevention. Consider checking out some of these links for more information.
