Running the Halls of WCES - All For a Good Cause!
Annual WCES Turkey Trot a Success!

Most of the time on Friday nights, you would not expect to find students and staff WANTING to go back to school. But that is exactly what happened on Friday November 9th as students, families, and staff returned to WCES. There was excitement in the air as the lights were turned off and students were told to RUN in the school halls. What could be going on? Well, it was none other than the annual WCES Turkey Trot!

The Turkey Trot is a yearly event where students have the chance to run for a good cause. Students pay to participate in either the one mile or two mile race. And just to add some fun, the race happens INSIDE THE SCHOOL, DOWN THE HALLS, IN THE DARK! Parents line the hallways as students zoom past and collect a glow stick as they complete each lap.

Besides the fun of running inside in the dark and earning glow sticks, students got their picture taken at the Turkey Trot photo booth, decorated a feather with what they are thankful for, purchased raffle tickets for great prizes, and sipped some warm apple cider. It was a fun-filled night!

But, the event was not just about fun. It was also an opportunity to help others in our community. The entry fee students paid, as well as the raffle ticket money was all donated to the local Food Pantry and Clothes Closet. Families also had the opportunity to donate canned and boxed food for the local food pantry. In all, our WCES family collected $550. This is such a great blessing for our neighbors in need as we head into the holiday season.

WCES hopes to continue this tradition of glow-in-the-dark fun in the future.
