Seussical Celebration

March 2nd is children’s author and illustrator Dr. Seuss’s birthday. This is a day when many of us enjoy remembering Seuss’s 50 plus classic stories. WCES staff and students rang in his 115th birthday with some Seuss fun!

Student Council hosted a Seuss Spirit Day. Lots of Cat in the Hats and Thing 1s and 2s were seen around the building, along with some Fox in Socks, Cindy Lou Who’s, and a Grinch or two. It was fun to look around and see Dr. Seuss’s characters around the building.

The highlight of our Seuss celebration was participating in our third quarter Grow Groups. Grow Groups take place one time each quarter. This is a chance for students to mix up all over the building with staff and students from other classes. It allows everyone the opportunity to connect with people outside the walls of their normal classrooms, while growing the feeling of a school-wide family. Each Grow Group spends time getting to know each other, building character traits, and other activities.

This time, the focus was on the main man himself, Dr. Seuss. Each group had a chance to read some of Seuss’s awesome tales and then participate in a variety of activities. Students were seen building Yertle the Turtle towers, creating I Can Read with My Eyes Shut optical illusions, making Bartholomew's Oobleck, decorating the Fox in Socks footwear, and much more.

Dr. Seuss would have been proud of all the amazing creativity and fun that our Grow Groups did together. Check out the Seuss photo gallery for a look at some of the happenings of the Seuss Celebration.
