Hello My Name Is...

Janet Vater

Welcome to the magical world of Kindergarten at Wolf Creek Elementary School! Throughout the year, children are encouraged to explore, question, wonder and discover many new things. I provide many “hands-on” opportunities in the classroom to encourage my students to become more confident readers and writers. You can help your child to feel more confident by reading with and to your child and encouraging them to write. While your child will be learning many new and important things, I believe that kindergarten helps to prepare your child for the more formal atmosphere of first grade.

Your child will be working on a variety of curriculum areas including math, writing, number and letter recognition, letter sounds, science and the social skills that are so important to successful living. This fall we will be learning kindergarten site-words and we will reinforce beginning reading and writing skills. We will be blending sounds together to create words and listening carefully to all the sounds in words so that we can write words and stories on our own. In math we will focus on number recognition, problem solving, patterning, estimation and simple measurement. Science will find us discovering with a program called the Quirkles and using our district curriculum to explore our world.

I encourage our class to treat each other kindly and with respect and to follow the WCES “RIDE” rules. We will reinforce this expectation all year long.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your child's day or what we are doing in our classroom.
