WCES Staff Receive Spring Hill Education Foundation Grants!

On Tuesday October 15th, five WCES staff members were surprised to receive Spring Hill Education Foundation grant money for various projects they are pursuing.

Fifth grade teacher Alyssa Thomas received a grant of $736 for a Financial Literacy Project.  Mrs. Thomas plans to have students study personal finance through a variety of different activities including a field trip to the Federal Reserve Money Museum in Kansas City, literature studies, and a Project Based Learning unit on  personal budgeting with decimals.

Computer teachers Shawn Jones and  Samantha Tipton, along with Library Media Specialist Amanda Preston received a grant for $2000 for materials for STEAM class.  They will use the funds to purchase roller coaster building kits and magnet resources.

Music teacher Kim Demings and the music teacher at Spring Hill Elementary School received a shared grant of $5000 to purchase instruments and materials for World Music Drumming.

According to the Spring Hill Education Foundation website, one of the foundation’s goals is to “supplement educational needs of the district not provided for within state and federally funded guidelines.”  WCES is beyond excited to receive over $7000 between the two grants and one shared grant.
