Wolf Creek has an amazing team of student leaders working hard to model leadership throughout our school. The Student Lighthouse Team consists of third through fifth grade students who went through quite the rigorous selection process in order to be chosen. Students were required to fill out a written application and participate in an interview with four staff members.
Once the team was selected, they got right to work. Their first order of business was to create a school-wide gratitude challenge. This took place during the week leading up to Thanksgiving. Students were given a kindness/gratitude challenge each day. If they completed the challenge, they could write their name on a turkey feather and those feathers went up on our school turkey. Student Lighthouse Team members created the daily challenges, prepared all the materials, collected the feathers, and added them to the turkey each day. These leaders also kept our school up-to-date with morning announcements. It was a whirlwind week of work for the team but tons of gratitude and kindness was spread throughout our school. And a lot of turkey feathers were displayed for all to see!
Right after this challenge wrapped up, the Student Lighthouse Team geared up for another big project, Toys for Tots! Student leaders came up with the idea to keep track of how many toys were collected by building large paper gingerbread men. Each time five toys were collected, a piece was added to the gingerbread man. Again Student Lighthouse Team members were hard at work collecting toys, counting, adding decorations to the gingerbread men, and of course sharing our school progress. Their favorite part was probably helping load up the piles and piles of donated toys!
Now that January is here, things have slowed down a bit for this team. However, they are currently working on creating a Leadership Hall of Fame. We cannot wait to see what these amazing role models come up with next!
