Spotlight on Crews

Spotlight on Crews

You probably know that we are a Leader in Me School. Over the last three years we have worked not only to teach the stand-alone Leader in Me lessons, but also to integrate the Leader in Me Habits and language all throughout our building. During this second semester, we have added another layer of Leader in Me culture by beginning ‘Leader in Me Crews’.

During Crew time, students engage in activities that focus on the 7 Habits, service, and teamwork. One of our goals for this time is to strengthen the sense of community by allowing students to interact with others that they might not see in a typical school day. Students in kindergarten and first grades stay and work with their teachers in their classrooms and pods. Second through fifth grades meet in mixed grade level groups of students led by staff members. These students were given the opportunity to select the crew they were most interested in joining. Crews meet each Thursday from 8:00 to 8:20.

We have 15 Crews working on various projects and tasks throughout the building. And while each Crew has two staff members leading it, the design is for the students involved to guide what is accomplished during their time together. Our list of Crews includes Announcements, Arts and Crafts, Book Club, Bucket Fillers, Community Service, Girls of Grace, Green Crew, Healthy Habits, Welcoming, Tech, Shining Surfaces, Recess, Reading Buddies, Library, Lead Tickets, and Student Lighthouse. Be sure to check out our school social media pages. We will be featuring a crew each week so you can learn more about what everyone is up to!
